HOW TO GET THERE

Satu Mare is a small city in Romania, on the border with Hungary and Ukraine. Travel into Hungary, Romania or other European countries does not require a visa. However, please verify that your passport is valid for at least another six months from the time of arrival.

There are several ways of getting there, and here are the easiest routes:

by plane

Corpus Christi -Houston -Frankfurt - Bucharest -Satu Mare

Corpus Christi - Houston - Istanbul - Bucharest - Satu Mare

You can fly all the way from Corpus Christi into Satu Mare. Most layovers will take you through Frankfurt, but there are several options. The best prices are available with Turkish Airlines, where your connection will take you through Istanbul, and then directly to Satu Mare. There are daily flights from Bucharest to Satu Mare and back, the flight being just an hour.

You can also check United, American Airlines, Delta, KLM and Lufthansa. A flight scanner, like Google Filghts or Expedia will show you all flights on one screen.

The airport codes to remember are:

Bucharest – OTP
Satu Mare – SUJ
Budapest - BUD

by plane & by car

Corpus Christi - Houston - Frankfurt - Budapest - car Satu Mare

This is our recommended route and also the trip that Nick and I will be making. Our recommendation is that you take advantage of your stay in Budapest and book a hotel for a couple of nights – Budapest is one of Europe’s gems. Besides getting some rest from your long flight, you can also explore this beautiful city for 1-2 days.

From Budapest to Satu Mare you are looking at a 3 ½ to 4 hour drive, mostly on highway. Car rental is available at Budapest Airport starting at $27/ day. Specify if you need a car with an automatic transmission, as most cars in Europe are standard (stick shift).

Enterprise has a car rental location at Budapest airport - https://www.enterprise.com/en/car-rental/locations/hungary/budapest-ferenc-liszt-intl-airport-z1e1.html

If you do not want to rent a car, please contact us and we can arrange a shuttle pick up for you.

There is a Border Crossing point when reaching Romanian border (fast verification, no delays). The standard check includes passport review and car / trunk verification.
